Summer String Buddy Lessons!
Whether your student needs an extra challenge, or wants some extra review of skills learned this year, he or she can be most prepared for next year’s Orchestra class by some additional study over the summer. Jenison Orchestras offers five half-hour private lessons with “string buddies” over the summer, (with optional additional lessons to be arranged with the instructor). Lessons occur at the Junior High on Monday-Thursday, between 8am and 3pm. The Jenison Orchestra Parents Association can provide scholarships for students who desire some assistance with the cost of these lessons. (Usually $25 scholarships are provided if requested).
MASTA Camp!
The Michigan Chapter of the American String Teachers Association (MASTA) puts on an high-quality three-day overnight camp for string students who are in the 5th or 6th Grade, and have played a string instrument for a year or two. It happens in June, and is a fantastic "first camping" experience for students. Mrs. Johnson, Mr. Harmsen, and Mr. Scott have all spent many summers on staff at this camp, and Jenison always is one of the most "represented" schools at the camp! You can find lots more info about MASTA Camp (Session One) on their website HERE. There are two scholarship opportunities for families who are interested as well. Application forms are handed out to students in class each spring. Applications are typically due before May 1st, and MASTA scholarship applications are due April 1st. Let us know if you have any questions, as we would love for your child to attend!
