Jenison Elementary Orchestra Uniforms

Orchestra students in the 5th and 6th Grade are asked to wear nice clothes when performing at concerts. If possible, it is best to avoid jeans, sneakers, and T-shirts or sweatshirts with logos on them. Female cello players should also avoid shorter or form-fitting skirts, as they don't allow for correct cello posture.

Jenison Junior High Orchestra Uniforms

The look of our orchestra is very important to the quality of our performance. Therefore, the Junior High Orchestra Students at Jenison wear a specific uniform for most of their performances.

Boys: Each boy must provide his own black dress pants, white button-up dress shirt, black socks, and dressy black shoes. The boys rent a green vest from JOPA each year.

Girls: Each girl must provide her own dressy white button-up blouse, black nylons or knee-highs, and FLAT dressy black shoes. (Girls who are also in choir may wear their choir ballet slippers, if they wish.) The girls will also rent black palazzo pants and a green vest from JOPA each year.

Uniforms

The look of our orchestra is as important as our sound. It is the first impression of our group and distinguishes us as mature musicians. All uniform requirements must be followed for full credit for a concert. You will be informed if your uniform does not meet the requirements and will be asked to correct the problem. If there are financial problems, the Jenison Orchestra Parents Association can assist in getting an appropriate concert uniform. Please see the new information on uniform resources found here.

Men

• black Tuxedo* (rented from Jenison High School for $10)
• black Dress Shoes
• black Socks
• white Tuxedo shirt with wing tip collar.
  
  *The tuxedo must be returned in the condition it was received or additional charges will be assessed.

Women

• Ladies must provide a Concert Black Outfit with black dress shoes and black stockings (no elevator shoes, or soles thicker than 1-1/2 inches).
• the dress must be a minimum of tea length that touches the floor when seated.
• sleeve length must be below the elbow.
• all necklines should be high in front and back.
• dress shoes with black stockings
• separates may be worn (particularly by cellists), but no midriff may be showing.
• if pants are worn, they must be all black, long, loose-fitting dress pants of a formal fabric (not tight or clinging - no stretch pants or leggings). Tops should be long-sleeved (over the elbow) and dressy.

NEW RESOURCE FOR HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS UNIFORMS

The HS girls uniform for orchestra is very similar to the expectations of any professional orchestra. This means that girls are responsible for putting together an ensemble that fits within "professional attire" guidelines. The result has been much flexibility for our girls to find something that both suits them and looks good on stage. In order to assist families in finding appropriate attire we will be providing the opportunity to order outfits from a local dealer next year.
