Announcements for 5th Grade Orchestra Families:
The following email was sent to parents on 10/11/11. If you did not receive it, or would like to be added to the email list, please send a message containing your name, your student's name, and your email to Mrs. Johnson at cjohnson@jpsonline.org Thanks! -Mrs. J
Hello Orchestra Parents!
The largest 5th Grade Orchestra that Jenison has ever seen is off to a great start! In our first few weeks, we have learned how to hold our instruments, how to properly pluck notes and songs, and how to play all of our notes and fingers on two strings. This week even begins the long-awaited process of learning to hold the bow. The students are all VERY excited about this! If you'd like to see a few of the things we've learned, just ask your student where "Squeaky" lives, what a "flat tire" looks like, or how to sing and play "The Monkey Song!" :)
Hopefully, you have been hearing much of this progress at home already. We frequently remind the kids to practice what we learn in class at home, as the repetition of skills is needed for progress on an instrument. For greatest success, our recommendation is to try to practice four or five times per week, for ten to fifteen minutes each time. You should periodically ask your child to show you what they have been learning in class. Your interest and support goes such a long way! You can also encourage your child to practice along with the CD that came with their book. It's much more fun that way!
I also wanted to remind you of an upcoming class schedule change: There will be no morning orchestra class this Friday (Oct. 14) at the Junior High. (Due to Parent-Teacher Conferences, there are no Junior High classes that day, and therefore no Junior High buses for us.) All of our schedule change dates were given to you at the sign-up night in September on an orange half-sheet of paper. If you have misplaced this sheet, the information is also located on our website at http://www.jenisonorchestras.org/5th-grade-orchestra.html
Thanks for supporting and encouraging your new orchestra student!
Sincerely,
Carol Johnson
